I attended Monash University completing my Medical Degree in the minimum time of 6 years in 1979. My initial general post graduate training was at Box Hill Hospital for 3 years with 5 years of further advanced specialist training overseas. Time was spent in London and Somerset(UK) for 2 years, in Vught(Netherlands) for 1 year and finally 2 years in Edinburgh(Scotland). I completed the last 2 years of my Anaesthetic training at the Royal Melbourne and Dandenong Hospitals respectively in 1988 and 1989. In 1990 I joined Whitehorse Anaesthetic Group and transferred to Victorian Anaesthetic Group in 2002 having just completed my 2 year term as Victorian State Chairman of the Australian Society of Anaesthetists. During this time I was party to direct negotiations regarding the formulation of Federal and State Parliamentary pieces of health legislation including Informed Financial Consent, Gapcover arrangements and the licensing of Day Surgery Centres. Between 1995 and 2010 I have organised close to 100 anaesthetic meetings ranging from hospital to regional to rural to State to National to International meetings, the largest of which was the 62nd Australian Society of Anaesthetists Combined International Scientific Congress for which I was the convenor in 2003. Presently I hold the position of Director of Anaesthetics at 2 private hospitals and one endoscopy/day surgery centre and consider patient safety paramount.
