Your Health History
It is important that both your surgeon and anaesthetist have a complete understanding of your health status. Prior to your procedure you will be asked a number of questions to obtain your "health history". This will assist the anaesthetist in managing your anaesthetic during surgery, and your pain relief post operatively.
Your health history includes:
- Your health status including whether you have had any recent illnesses
- A history of respiratory problems such as bronchitis or asthma
- A history of cardiac (heart) problems
- A history of any other medical conditions such as diabetes, blood pressure or blood problems
- Whether you are allergic to or have any abnormal reactions to medictions, surgical tapes, or antisceptic lotions
- Whether you wear dentures or plates, or have any loose or capped teeth
