The Victorian Anaesthetic Group was founded in 1958 after four eminent anaesthetists ventured in to private practice. Such was the respect for their experience, they were referred to as the "Directors Group".

For almost 50 years an array of experienced anaesthetists have joined the Victorian Anaesthetic Group, with the Group expanding steadily but selectively to its current membership of 28. Current members work in a variety of specialist areas, many of which in addition to their private practice, work on a sessional basis within the public sector.

Members of the Victorian Anaesthetic Group have always been at the forefront of providing world's best practice, with some members maintaining an interest in research and teaching.

The Victorian Anaesthetic Group office provides support to its members, and works closely with surgical and allied health organisations throughout metropolitan Melbourne and parts of outer Melbourne.
