
Dr Mark Langley is a graduate of Melbourne University (MB, BS. 1982). He commenced specialist training in Anaesthesia at St. Vincent’s Hospital in 1985. He was awarded fellowship of the Faculty of Anaesthetists Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1990 and became a foundation fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 1992. Before entering private practice in 2007 he was for 17 years on the full time staff of the Alfred Hospital. He was the Supervisor of Anaesthetic training from 1992 to 1999 and was an examiner for the College in Physiology for 9 years until 2005. From 1993 until 2007 he was appointed to the Victorian Consultative Council on Anaesthetic Morbidity and Mortality, a Victorian Government body set up to enquire into Anaesthesia related Mortality and Morbidity.
Dr Langley has extensive experience in Anaesthesia for Cardiothoracic Surgery and was involved in the establishment of Heart and Lung Transplantation services at The Alfred Hospital. He has U.S. National Board of Echocardiography certification in trans-oesophageal echocardiography. He has a special interest in Airway management and has lectured and taught at various local and National meetings and workshops.
Dr. Langley remains active in teaching at The Alfred Hospital department of Anaesthesia. He is also a member of the ASA and the AMA and of the Anaesthetic Continuing Education Society (ACES) and participates in ANZCA continuing professional development programme.
Dr Langley’s main areas of practice interest are in Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, ENT Surgery, Opthalmology, and sedation for Gastrointestinal Endoscopic procedures.
