Dr. Bertie Weitkamp

Dr Weitkamp joined the Victorian Anaesthetic Group in February 2008 and holds a VMO appointment at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Dr Weitkamp has a special interest in cardiac anaesthesia and transoesophageal echocardiography.

His other interests include anaesthesia for maxillary/oral surgery, ENT, plastic/reconstructive and colo-rectal surgery.


Introduction:

Originally from Germany, Dr. Weitkamp completed his undergraduate training at the University of Munster before moving to the UK. Here he completed his specialist training in Anaesthetics and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA) in 1996.

He then moved to Australia in 1998 and completed a 1-year fellowship at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. On his return to the UK he worked as a consultant in the north east of England but returned to Australia permanently in 2000.

Dr Weitkamp became a Fellow of the Australia and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 2002 and was a staff anaesthetist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne between 2002 and 2008.

He lives in Melbourne with his wife and 3 children.
